Schönbrunn Zoo

At Schönbrunn Zoo…

Together with the giraffe enclosure, the newly built East Africa House with the aviary designed by Zeman was opened this Wednesday.

The aviary was built for smaller species such as dwarf mongooses and blanket tocos, “which forage together in the open air”. Zeman was responsible for the workshop planning, production and assembly for this project.

A special feature of this aviary is the hydraulic synchronised tensioning system of the cable support structure with hydraulic overload protection (e.g. in the event of heavy snowfall).

A total of 3 tonnes of duplex-coated steel construction and 200 m² of black-coated stainless steel cable mesh were used for the small but sophisticated structure.
