Redevelopment of the Páirc Uí Chaoimh Stadium in Cork City/Ireland

The “Páirc Uí Chaoimh” stadium is the venue for the traditional final matches of the “provincial Hurling” and “Gaelic Football” championships as well as for concerts of the artists Bruce Springsteen, Prince, U2, The Stone Roses, Michael Jackson, Oasis, etc.

It is at home in the city of Cork and is the most important stadium in the province of Munster. With approximately 400,000 inhabitants of Cork County, “Gaelic games stadium” has a capacity of about 45,000 spectators.

At the present time, the complete renovation of the stadium and “the sacred field” with its oversized dimension of 144 x 88 m was finalised.

Zeman & Co was contracted to build an impressive roof steel construction with a total weight of 900 tons of steel for the northern and the southern stands.

Over the northern stand, welded steel girders have been installed with a height of up to 1.50 m and a cantilever of 25 m, “business as usual” for Zeman.

The spatial steel framework construction over the southern stand was a tricky new exercise even for the experienced Zeman’s steel builders. A total of 10 double formwork units have been assembled on the laydown area. The size of each unit is about 45 m length, 10 m width and a height of almost 18 m and especially the piece weight of almost 70 tons showed their limits even to mobile cranes with the heaviest bearing capacity available in Ireland.

The complete 900-ton steel construction was calculated and designed by Zeman in Vienna, produced by Zekon (Zeman’s steel construction facility) in Poland and assembled by Zeman in Ireland.

The opening of the PuC Stadium took place in July 2017 with a “Gaelic football match”.
