The Museum is a successful example of combining historical construction with modern technology. The Gründerzeit building from 1914 was completely gutted while preserving the historic facade to create generous exhibition spaces. Zeman & Co carried out extensive steel construction work, including replacing existing ceilings and masonry with reinforced concrete components and slender steel frameworks. In the central section, the gutting created space for three interlocked exhibition platforms. These can be flexibly used in different formats thanks to the slender, long-span steel structure. Major challenges included conducting nighttime assembly work and integrating HVAC installations into the structural framework. The thoughtful use of materials and careful coordination of all parties resulted in a harmonious whole.
