Zeman & Co wins Austrian Steel Construction Award 2025

Zeman & Co was awarded the steel construction prize in the building construction category for the “Bauhaus-Archiv | Museum für Gestaltung Berlin” tower construction project.

The filigree tower, characterized by the combination of steel, glass and wood, would not have been feasible at the time of Walter Gropius. Today, digital planning and high-precision production technology have made its realization possible. The concept follows the Bauhaus ideal: clear forms, reduced aesthetics and innovative detailed solutions.

The jury based its decision on the following arguments, among others: “The project impresses not only with its technically precise and innovative, but also with its poetic use of steel. The clearly recognizable steel structure is reminiscent of a bamboo scaffold, which is placed protectively in front of the central building. The structurally decoupled connection of the timber elements, which
are thermally enclosed by a glass façade, demonstrates a spirit of innovation and the desire to use materials in an ideal and
contextually appropriate way.”

As general contractor, Zeman & Co was responsible for the steel construction, timber construction and the glass façade. The realization was carried out together with the sister companies Zekon (steel construction) and Waagner Biro steel and glass (glass façade) within the Zeman Group.

This project embodies our group motto “Everything from a single source” – an approach that was essential for the successful realization of this challenging, modularly constructed tower made of steel, wood and glass. We are delighted that our entry was able to hold its own against numerous impressive submissions. It is particularly worth mentioning that Zekon also won the Polish Steel Construction Award for the production of the tower.
